 Use it as an auxiliary exercise! The Fit™ Strengthening Roller can be compared to the pullover motion as it involves anti-extension of the core while placing the arms and shoulders into an overhead stretched position, however instead of a supine position, you are in a prone position. Thus, ab wheel roll outs can be a useful auxiliary movement if you are working on your overhead squat.

How do you perform an ab wheel Roll-out?

STEP 1: Place an airex pad under your knees. Feet will be lifted off the ground, you can cross them to make this easier.  

STEP 2: Hold the ab wheel in front of you and align your shoulders over it perpendicularly. 

STEP 3: Pull your belly button in, this in turn will activate your core and help your hips be in a neutral position. You will want your hips to be hollow during the movement. 

STEP 4: Keep your head and spine inline (look at ground).

STEP 5:  Start extending your arms in front of you (shoulder flexion), while exhaling.

STEP 6: Pause at the end for an isometric hold. This is an anti-extension exercise and thus you want to make sure you don’t hyper extend (arching of the back) during the exercise.

STEP 7: Slowly roll your arms back inwards towards your body (shoulder extension), while inhaling.

STEP 8: Come back to starting position and repeat. Make sure you’re preforming slow and controlled movements. Be weary in performing too many repetitions, this could result in neuromuscular fatigue which in turn can influence posture during the movement.
